Your screen shot suggests that the Caption style has acquired numbering formatting which needs to be removed Since the Caption dialog box adds its own system for numbering, the automatic paragraph numbering isn't needed (and will cause "duplicate" numbering, as you have noticed)

I can't for the life of me understand how to fix my Figure Caption Numbering I spent a lot of time learning how to create a Heading 1 and 2 style for an appendix, you can even see at the top in my styles where i have them
