I think the best value for time (and money) magazine in the UK is the Private Eye Being a satire magazine doesn't make it a "core read", as one would read the FT or Economist for that But for investigations and anti-corruption issues, Private Eye goes above and beyond I've heard good things about The Spectator, so I might give it a try
